Change of season, change of theme

Ok, I changed things up a bit this time around. Gone are all the sidebar crap. If you want to make a new post just click on the big B at the top. Also, you can change the look at the top yourself. I chose this as the default look because it also displays some text. I personally think the snapshot view is the best. Play around with what you like and let me know if I should change the default view. Also, if you don't like this new way of laying things out also let me know. Also, this view only shows one picture. You have to click on the post to get the full post and all the pictures. The classic view is...well...classic. It has the same layout that we are used to. I just though this would be more interesting .

On top of this layout I have enabled a mobile version. So, all you smart phone users in the family can view post etc from your phone easily.

That's about it. The background image is actually my own. I took that this past summer in Oregon.

Just wanted to say hi!! My kids' last day of school is tomorrow. I'm so proud of my children they have done so well this year. It's amazing what they can do when you start paying them for grades. Both Madison and Bridger got straight's A's the whole year. Yes, it is a good thing I can pick up another shift. We are almost done with the green house and I can't tell you how glad I will be to get my husband back. We hope to move them in the first week of june. There has been so much painting. The house has like 7 different shades of cream I just don't get it. May says it's because she wants some constrast. I say if you want contrast then paint the dang door red, not another shade of cream. Ha! Ha! Needless to say I have learned to say, its nice, its your house do what you want. Love you all Becky

Wow Jonathan: Nothing like a new background to make us all contribute again! Thanks for getting us re-motivated. As for pictures--we have totally missed an important opportunity, by not taking ONE picture of this "magnificent adventure" we are on. The process is advancing, but I really don't think we'll be ready to move in, in two weeks. Having their help would have been significant. I still look at it but I am as guilty as the rest about posting on it. We just said goodbye to Kristen who came up for the weekend to help with the house. We are coming along great! Electrical is done except for a few missing switches thanks to Andy's hard work but plugs and lights are in. The counter top guy will be here probably before you read this. All we really have left to do is the trim. It's a big job but we are trying to finish this month before Rob comes up to visit so he can help with the move. We are all looking forward to the end of this process. Although I have enjoyed being able to spend this time with dad building. It has been cool. Jason

So mom and dad moved today and I just wanted to share my thoughts and feelings on the subject.

To be completely honest, the whole thing feels very weird to me. I have known for some time that they couldn't go on as they were forever. It was killing them literally. Also, having lived close to them for the past 6 years I have gotten to know who mom and dad are actually, and not the "vacation" parents that the rest of you see. Jason will soon learn what I mean. So, I know that this is by far the best thing for them. I am honestly happy for them that they can now move on to the next stage in their life.

On the other hand. I am going to miss the ability to call them up and have dinner with them. I am going to miss having them involved in the kids lives. I am going to miss the ability to show up and "borrow" anything I may need at the time. I am in short, going to miss having them around.

The thing I think that is making feel so weird about the whole thing is the thought that my/our childhood home is no longer "ours" It always felt like a home away from home. I am sure you all felt the same way. Just the thought that I can't just walk in there anymore is frankly hard for me at this time to wrap my head around.

I know we will all eventually get used to this whole thing, its just weird right now. I do, however, sincerely hope that every one of you can understand that is by far the best thing for mom and dad.

p.s. You do still have a sibling in Bozeman if ever decide you want to visit. I know its a foreign thought to everybody in this family to visit your siblings...maybe we should start.

Maddie needed a fresh new haircut for school on Monday. Her hair prior to this was all the way to the middle of her back. The stylist cut off about 8 inches of hair. But Maddie looks wonderful now!

We decorated Madison's room for her birthday. The new soft fur comforter, the polka dots match the polka dots on the wall. The lime green curtains in the afternoon sun make the room have a green glow.

Shelly was asking how I make the rainbow cake. Of course Madison had to have one with the sun, planets, and the moon. To make the cake use a light colored cake mix. I have used lemon, yellow, white, and rainbow chip cake mixes and they all worked equally. Mix the batter up then divide the batter up into bowels, (I did 6-8 colors). Then add food coloring to the cake mix in each of the bowels stir the color in. Then take the first color and drop it into the center of the pan. Second color gets dropped right in the center of the first and so on. Make a bullseye with each color being dropped on top of the previous. Don't mix the colors, let the weight of the batter spread the mix into the pan. Cook and enjoy.

We are leaving on Tuesday for Yellowstone Park, then we will go thru Cooke City down in to Billings, over to Mount Rushmore and back to Billings and then finally over to Bozeman for the 4 of July. Pete is progressing in leaps and bounds. It was maybe over a month ago when Pete was taking his first steps. I kept waiting, with camera in hand, to get a good video. He would maybe add one more step to his repertoire every week. Slow progress but he's full blown now and getting a huge buzz out of it.

Yesterday and today, he won't let me feed him anything with a spoon. Where he was perfectly amiable before, now he wants to do it ALL BY HIMSELF. And it is taking me all morning to clean up after him. I couldn't resist the face-stuffing, though. I love a kid who stuffs his face!

Ned and May are here to visit. Ned has been here for a couple days. He has been busy building on their house. Yesterday we had Sue, Joel, and Grandma Mary over for dinner along with May and Ned. It was quite a house full. Jason made his famous spagetti and meatballs. He sure loves to cook!! I think Ned and May are going to leave tomorrow. Dave's birthday was a week ago so I'm a little behind. But I've been wanting to post this and I'm taking the opportunity today.

A little bit about Dave:
He is a genuine big kid. He loves sugar cereals. He loves getting the t-shirt or other special offers on the back of the sugar cereals (one of the very few things he ever asks me to do for him). He is a collector of hats (mostly of the beanie sorts). Come winter time and we start digging through the hat/glove bin, I'm always amazed that we probably could clothe the heads of an entire elementary school.

His words, "Now we can be a modern family!"

He is such a good father to Charlie and Pete. He gets down on their level, ya know. He understands them, he loves them, he entertains them. They love him too. Recently, Charlie has been clapping and cheering when Daddy comes home from work.

He loves what he does at work. He loves the people he works with. That makes me happy. He is currently re-reading the Harry Potter books in his free time.

Never is a complaining word uttered from his mouth. He is gracious to me for everything I do. He is thoughtful and considerate. He is nonjudgmental. He is a man of integrity. He is practical, incredibly intelligent, and thrifty. He'll eat anything I make, except for some squash I made when we were dating but I apparently didn't cook it enough, so....

He has a few really good friends, whom of which will be his friends for life. He has a soft spot for cats because of his childhood, long-living friend, Silver.

And, he is a great dancer---the real reason for which I married him. Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

We have had fisher our whole married life. He was our first child. Words cannot express our saddness. We loved Fisher with all our heart and will miss him.

I just wanted to spread the word about Grandma Mary's annual party. She is really hoping that "everyone" can come. It is on December 31st (New Year's) up at Snowbird. She has reserved some fancy room and we will have some fancy catered lunch. She wants to have family pix done-starting at 12:00 I think (I'm not totally sure of the times) and then lunch at 2:00. And... the special perk is... if you come to Utah for this, you will also be invited to the Annual New Year's Eve Fondue Party at my house! Rob and Lurlene's family always come over and we have almost perfected the art of a perfect fondue party. It would be super cool to have other brothers and families there. (Or even a MOM and DAD.) Please come down if you can!

Ned I thought you might like this receipe for Monster Cookies
6 eggs 9 c. oatmeal
2 c. brown sugar 3 c. peanut butter
2 c. white sugar 1/2 c. choc. chips
1/2 T. vanilla 8 oz. M & M's
1/2 T. karo syrup
4 t. baking soda
2 sticks butter

Blend all ingredients. Then stir in choc. chips and M & M's. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. Makes approx. 100 cookies.

For those of you who haven't heard me rant and rave about Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew, well, just go to his website, get the book at the library and contemplate the possibilities. In a weekend, we got our garden up and running. We planted from seed: beets, radishes, two kinds of lettuce, carrots, onions, beans, sweet peas, cucumbers, squash, and green peppers. Then we transplanted our three tomato plants. We are learning what things we like to grow and where to strategically plant them so they don't take over the sunlight of some poor unsuspecting lettuce plant. Here is what it looked like when things were just starting to sprout in May:

That monster in the middle there is apparently a bush tomato plant of the grape variety. It looked so small and innocent when I bought it at Lowe's. It is taking over and we keep having to support it up and up. Ya, probably not going to get that kind again next year. Or maybe we'll have to make that support system Mel talks about.

Another view. We replanted some more lettuce and sweet peas because we want more of them. And our green peppers are a little slow to grow, that's what the little ones are.

Our carrot box is doing so-so.

Here are just a few pictures of our harvest, though tomatoes, peas, beans, and lettuce are not included because we are constantly harvesting them.

Look closely and you'll see two tiny frogs playing in the lettuce. We love that the frogs like our garden and hopefully they keep the bugs in check.

My first triatholon

I completed my first triatholon. It was in Park City, UT. Elevation 7200 Ft. Rob and gang came to cheer me on. It was a challenge but a lot of fun. Jason and I are going to do the next one together.

So Jon and I finally broke down and got a dog for the kids. She's a Siberian husky mix and is great. Her name is Mia and she is a lot of fun. Sara loves her more than I thought she would. She hang's on her every minute she can and is outside with her when she goes out for potty breaks and whatnot. Overall I think we got a good dog.

Jason has called and talked to you about the cost for the house. $225 per family. We were thinking there are 6 families and 6 days. First day is probably just a dinner and the last is probably just breakfast, but we thought that each family could have a day were there in charge of the food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Maybe a small snack like fruit or something. That way each family can decide how much they want to spend. If you want pancakes and corndogs or steak its up to you. The family in charge of the first night would also have the last day which is a breakfast. May, Ned and G. Mary are a family group. Let me know what you think about this idea. Their is about 33 people including about 4 under the age of 3 years old. Also the house has 5 bedrooms with a loft each family unit can have a room. I was thinking May, Ned, and G Mary could stay in a room with two queen beds. If you don't like the idea with sharing a room with your mother in-law, Ned let me know. I will write more, but I have to go to Madison's baseball game. Becky Please feel free to voice your ideas.

Sara's Four!!!

So today my little pixie child has turned four. Wow how time has flown by. Doesn't seem like that long ago she was born. Anyways, I could go on and on about how time doesn't stand still, but I will tell you about the Birthday girl's day. We took her and her siblings to "Parties R Us" which is basically and indoor play park. They have all these inflatable toys/rides. There was a slides, and obstacle courses, at first she was a little freaked out by all the noise and commotion so Jonathan had to just throw her into the thick of it. Once she realized that it was fun she had a blast. So did everyone else, especially little Sophie. After that we headed to Taco Bell which for some reason is her favorite place to eat. Grandma and Grandpa Myers joined us for dinner, and afterward headed to our place for cake and presents. I do believe my little girl had a great day.

I think the cub scouts will be glad to see Bridger leave. That is 3 first place pinewood derbys in a row. Pretty cool. Madison raced last years car and of course it beat everyone in the open division.

Hiking with the Scouts

And who says guys can't multitask? My sweet husband took our two boys and some Boy Scouts for an orienteering hike. Every time he stopped walking, Pete, (in the front carrier) would wake up and start fussing. So he had to rock back and forth while trying to explain how to read a map and use a compass. It was sweet.

I know what some of you are thinking, "Why did she make him carry BOTH kids?" Actually, Dave is used to carrying heavier packs on his backpacking trips and actually looks for opportunities to "train". I just carried my camel back, (actually, its a camel hip) and took the pictures. It was nice.

An explosion in downtown on thursday destroyed 4 buildings. Kinda creepy, and a little hard to imagine. I suppose that will change when I actually go down there and see the damage for myself.

Here's a news flash from Utah: Out of the murky brown mud of winter, my bulbs are emerging!!
Green shoots, some yellow color... soon we will be seeing daffodils and crocuses and then tulips. I AM SO EXCITED!! Finally... a little spring fever!

Pete's face is too chubby for him to open his eyes very much. When he does it is usually just his left eye, which gives him nice Popeye charm.

Baby boy #2 for Dave and Shelly is due Feb. 12th (next week!). I've been wanting to post a picture but turns out I'm too vain and besides, you've all seen pregnant women before. Charlie is getting excited for "baby brother" to come. My mom is coming Feb. 11th for about a week and a half and Dave has saved a bunch of time off work. Hopefully, we'll be calling soon with the news of arrival!

We are finally getting more snow here, thank goodness--it is clearing away the nasty gray inversion Salt Lake always gets. Last week our washing machine broke. Then three days later the snowblower died!

No I don't think I remember to get my camara out while Rob was here. We had such a fast and fun visit I think I forgot. Shelly, you must have your bagged packed and you must be getting excited. Let us know when the big day is again. My kids love watching the videos of Charlie. love, becky

Well life here is great after the crazy December rush. January is so mellow... except for my Christmas decorations still staring at me!
